2012 Fashion Resolutions

2011 was about experiencing color, tighter fits, shorter lengths, prints, and patterns. Many of these trends are moving forward into 2012. Below I have listed the items that should not make it into 2012 fashion, and the items that should make it into the 2012 fashion.

Fashion 2012 Don’ts

High Ankle Boots- high ankle boots cut about mid-calf chopping women’s heights in half, making many women’s legs appear shorter and chunkier. Nobody wants to be seen looking shorter with thicker legs.

Tight dresses- celbs this year on the red carpet and movie primers have been seen wearing skin tight dresses.  This year, go for form fitting, but not so tight you cannot breathe.

Hot shorts- Rihanna, Kelly Rowland, and Beyonce have all been photographed in the shorter than short daisy duke shorts. There is nothing like the sight of camel toe to send those shorts back in time where they should stay.

Dark bland colors- Leave the bland colors in 2011. Start fresh in 2012 with colors.

Fashion 2012 Dos

For 2012 wear ankle boots that hit right below the ankle. This will create elongated legs, making women or men look taller and with slimmer legs.

Wear color! The color of 2012 is now a bright red color with a hint of orange.

Wear prints with animal textures. Fashion for 2012 will be about experiencing color with prints and various textures. Wear a shirt with floral prints and a shoe with an animal print.

Empire waist will still be a continuous trend in 2012. Just be sure to highlight the waist line with a flattering belt.

Shorts with stockings will be a fashion trend to continue through 2012. But it is up to you to decide if it si worth keeping around.

A comfortable Stiletto

There is such a thing as a comfortable stiletto. The first step is to find a stiletto with a platform base. The platform base helps create a balance between the heel and the base of the foot. This way, there is not a lot of pressure on your toes.

For wider feet, ensure you purchase stilettos with a wider toe base, instead of a narrow pointed base. Your toes will thank you later. Below are some images of what a comfortable stiletto could be.

Coat tips for all body shapes

It is that time of season again where we break out our winter coats. But this year, let us try on coats that fit our body type and work as a colorful accessory to your outfit instead of a winter cover up.

If you are an apple shaped women who is: larger in the bust, have broad shoulders, and narrow hips, try tailored jackets. These jackets will nip in at your waist line creating an appearance of a smaller waist and making your tummy look smaller. In jacket length ensure it falls right below your waist and not above the thigh. If your jacket is too long it will make you look wider in your hip area and wider than what you actually are.

If you are a pear shaped women who is: wider in the hips and thighs, have narrow shoulders, and a larger bottom try jackets with length that stops at your waist, and jackets with shoulder pads. Wearing a jacket that stops at the waist will prevent you from looking larger than what you are, and it will draw attention to your small waist line. Also, purchasing jackets with shoulder pads will give the appearance of broader shoulder to help balance out being bottom heavy.

If you are an hourglass shaped woman who is: equally balanced in bust and hips, a smaller waist and thicker legs than fitted coats are for you. The fitted coats will draw attention to your smaller waist line. Being hourglass shaped, any length of coat will work for you.

If you are boyish shaped women with: undefined waist, small hips and bust, than you must dress to create illusions of waist lines, shoulders and bust. This can be created by wearing a tailored jacket, or a jacket with a pattern to draw the eyes into the small waist line. Try to find jackets that flare at the end, this will create the illusion of hips.

Wearing color

Tips for wearing color:
Is your wardrobe full basic pallet colors? Would you like to try a splash of color? Some tips to add color slowly into your life:
·         Use color as accent pieces. Use this in the form of belts, shoes, make-up, jewelry, or even nail polish.
·         If you are top heavy and want to draw attention away from your chest and shoulders wear color on the bottom. Start out loose and work your way to tight. Start with long flowing skirts and work your way to shorts or even nice tight pants.

Wearing prints or a-symmetrical

Wearing prints or a-symmetrical shapes can be a challenge. But you follow the guidelines on how to wear prints and shapes, anybody can pull them off.
1.       If you are bottom heavy-wear prints on top and a solid color on the bottom. This brings attention to your top and not your bottom half, in a good way.
2.       If you are top heavy just flip the prints to the bottom and solid colors on top.
3.       If you have a boyish frame you can wear prints or a-symmetrical from head to toe. Example of this is a nice A-line dress.

To add Hips

For women who are broad shouldered with a small waist and no hips, there is a simple solution. To bring the illusion that you have hips and to balance out the bottom portion of your body with your broad shoulders, try a flower top skirt. The extra frill on the top will create hips and balance the shoulders.

Skirts for thicker lower bodies

For women who are a bit hipper and chunky through the thighs but love to hate wearing any type of skirt; try wearing a pencil skirt with thick stripes down the sides. The thick stripes against a pattern give the illusion that the hips stop at the end of the pattern.  An example of this skirt is an

Dressing for an Apple Shape

For a body figure that is an apple shape your upper body is larger than your lower half. To dress this body shape a good piece of advice is to wear a tunic style top with a belt around the waist. Or you can wear an empire waist shirt that fits around the waist right underneath the bust.  Keeping eyes focused on one of your best asset instead of on your stomach, which you might not be so keen on people looking.

Dressing for a Rectangle Body Shape

Having a rectangle body shape means your body shape is quite bland and very straight. To help create shapes use items that help divide your body shape.  Fashion style tip is to create a waist line wear a thick belt. To create shoulders wear puff sleeve tops. Example:  wear a puff sleeve shirt, pencil skirt with a thick belt to help divide your top from your bottom and to create a waist line.

Finding the perfect jean can be very hard.  For myself, I like jeans for the fact that they are jeans. I am not a huge fan of the jeans with 50-75% spandex. Every time you bend over or squat the more they expand.  For the various body shapes, I have explored and found some of the best jeans.
For hourglass shaped figures: the best jeans are relaxed and roomy through the hips and thighs.  Try to stay away from skinny jeans. Skinny jeans tend to push everything that does not fit properly into the jeans up and over the waist line. Making the hour glass figure look fatter and larger, the jeans below  are best suitable for hourglass shapes.
For pear shaped women who have a bit more "junk in the trunk" Apple Bottom jeans or relaxed fit works best.
For women who are ruler shaped skinny jeans or stright legged jeans are best.
